How to grow mushrooms, with a Mono-tub.

Growing mushrooms in bulk with the mono-tub Tek.

What is tek? Well its a short way of saying technique. There are many ways to grow mushrooms. this one we are going to explore, its how to grow mushrooms in bulk, from a spore syringe. With a few simple items, growing mushrooms is both fun and easy

The monotub method is a popular technique among shroom cultivators due to its simplicity and effectiveness. It involves the use of a large, clear plastic tub as a growing chamber. The tub is filled with a substrate, which is a mixture of organic materials that the shrooms use as a food source. The monotub provides an ideal environment for the shrooms to grow, as it maintains the right balance of humidity and fresh air exchange.

The casing layer is another crucial component in the monotub method. It is a layer of non-nutritious material that is placed on top of the colonized substrate. The casing layer serves several purposes. First, it helps to maintain the right level of moisture in the substrate, which is essential for the growth of the shrooms. Second, it provides a microclimate that is conducive to the formation of shroom pins, which are the initial stages of shroom growth.

To start growing shrooms with a monotub, you will first need to prepare your substrate. This can be a mixture of straw, manure, and vermiculite. Once your substrate is prepared, it needs to be sterilized to kill any potential contaminants. This can be done by baking it in the oven or pressure cooking it.

After sterilizing, the substrate is placed in the monotub and inoculated with shroom spores. The spores will colonize the substrate, turning it into a mycelium, which is the vegetative part of the shroom. This process can take a few weeks, and it’s important to keep the monotub in a warm, dark place during this time.

Once the substrate is fully colonized, it’s time to add the casing layer. This can be made from a mixture of peat moss and vermiculite. The casing layer is moistened and then spread evenly over the colonized substrate.

After adding the casing layer, the monotub is moved to a location with indirect light and a temperature of around 75-85 degrees Fahrenheit. The casing layer will help to trigger the formation of shroom pins, and within a week or two, you should start to see your shrooms growing.

It’s important to maintain the right conditions in the monotub during the fruiting stage. This means maintaining a high level of humidity and ensuring regular fresh air exchange. This can be achieved by misting the inside of the tub with water and fanning it several times a day.
