Mexican albino cubensis was first gathered by the renowned mycologist John “Mushroom” Allen from a location in Mexico. While it is labeled as an albino, this designation may be more of a marketing strategy than an accurate description. Some enthusiasts believe that this strain has a higher likelihood of yielding albino variations.
The mushrooms from the Mexican Albino strain typically exhibit a golden brown hue. This is accented by a white ring around the edge of the cap. They are of medium size and can provide good yields across multiple dense flushes. In terms of potency, the Mexican Albino strain is regarded as having an “average” strength, with tryptamine levels ranging from 0.50% to 0.90%.
This strain is noted for its rapid colonization and quick fruiting abilities. Similar to other Mexican varieties, the Mexican Albino strain shows strong resistance to contamination and can thrive in less-than-ideal conditions.
Cultivating Mexican Albino Cubensis
This can be a rewarding endeavor for those interested in mycology. The cultivation process typically begins with obtaining spores, which can be sourced from reputable suppliers. The spores can be inoculated into various substrates, with popular choices being brown rice flour, vermiculite, or other organic materials that provide nutrients for growth.
The ideal conditions for growing this strain include a warm, humid environment, as these conditions mimic the natural habitat of the mushrooms. Maintaining proper temperature and humidity levels is crucial. In general temperatures between 75°F to 80°F (24°C to 27°C) and humidity levels around 90% are optimal for growth.
Once the mycelium colonizes the substrate, the fruiting stage can be initiated by introducing fresh air and lowering the humidity slightly. This stage typically lasts for several weeks, culminating in the harvest of mature mushrooms. Proper sterilization and cleanliness during the process are essential to prevent contamination and ensure a successful yield.
